Missouri Soybean Farmer

Chris Filer

“It’s raised right here in the Heartland, and we’re just focused on providing the best products that we can to the marketplace.”

Chris Filer
Soybean Farmer

Name: Chris Filer
Location: Garden City, Missouri
Years farming: I’ve been farming for 16 years.
My family: I have been married to my wife, Kelly, for 17 years. We have three children: Jacob 11, Lucas 10, and Grace 7.
How I came to be a farmer: Growing up, I never planned on being involved in agriculture. My wife, Kelly, thought she was marrying a musician. Kelly's family was a farm family, and that is how I was introduced to the field of agriculture. I became very interested in agriculture and decided to make that a career.
The best thing about being a farmer: Now that I am working mostly on the production side of our family's agriculture businesses, I think working with quality people in agriculture is what I enjoy the most. The farmers we work with are hard-working, honest, God-fearing people – they are truly top-notch.
My personal philosophy on farming: To me, farming is not just an occupation. It is a way of life. It is the environment in which you choose to raise your children – where people learn about the value of hard work and how real life lessons shape your outlook on how you deal with the world around you.
